Steve Walker of Holland Road Baptist Church shared about a Colorado-based project called Cross Purpose. It entails supporting and mentoring people as they step into meaningful employment. He shared a story of a great donation to his work of £10,000 from VPI who administrate Shoreham power station, pointing out that this should embolden us to remind business of their corporate social responsibilities. We need to serve those with money well by asking them to invest it in the services we are providing. Matt grounded this in Scripture, sharing the story of Jesus’ disciples commandeering the donkey with only the explanation ‘The Lord has need of it’. And on meeting Mike Jourdain, at the City Mission Food Bank, I instantly knew I was working alongside someone very special. Mike's commitment to making a positive difference almost sparkled from him - there was an energy to him that was undeniable. He was immensely kind-hearted and had an incredible understanding and empathy for people who used the services he was such a central part of providing. It's no exaggeration to say that Mike personally helped thousands of people through extremely difficult circumstances.
