CAB Network - Autumn 24
Work-readiness, Upskilling and Employability
Our CAB network gathered on 3rd October 2024 to focus on the place of Christian work-readiness programmes in our city, agreeing that assisting employability is a vital part of the Christian response to poverty.
Steve Walker of Holland Road Baptist Church shared about a Colorado-based project called Cross Purpose. It entails supporting and mentoring people as they step into meaningful employment. Steve is seeking to see this happen locally.
We heard from Rev. Martin Poole of St. Luke’s Prestonville about the work he is involved in combatting modern slavery, inviting us to a summit day on October 18th in Chichester.
Martin also outlined specific needs to serve the Crossover project which has been providing free breakfasts at weekends but has recently had to pause.
He called upon churches and organisations in the network to seek wise ways to join hands in both of these city-serving missions.
Emily Milne, Centre Manager at Spear Brighton, spoke about their inspirational work with young adults who are taking their first forays into the working world.
She shared eloquently about how their students are mentored and encouraged into work, especially those coming from challenging and disadvantaged backgrounds.
