CAB Network Launch

Representatives of over 50 different churches and charities gathered on the evening of Thursday 23rd June for the launch of the Christian Action Brighton (CAB) network at the Clarendon Centre.

The threefold aim of the network is to draw together the social and community work being done by these groups, to increase visibility of the services being provided, and to assist the local authorities in their efforts.

The launch of CAB was inspired by a similar initiative in Bristol which has delivered solid results in areas such as child food poverty and the Church's response to asylum seekers. Leaders of charities working in these fields came to the event from Bristol to share their expertise and encouragement at the launch.

CAB administrator Tim Jones said "It is vital that the good done by the Christian communities reaches those who need it. This need is only going to increase as the cost-of-living rises, central funding decreases and other national pressures grow."

"We are from a wide spectrum of churches and there are real differences among us. We can only achieve what is needed by putting our common motivation to follow the servant-leadership of Jesus first. There is a strong desire to do this and to make it count for Brighton and Hove."

The next whole network meetings of CAB are planned for the Autumn to prepare for the Winter season.
